Risk of collisions at an airport

Purpose of a GIS project work at university was the identification of areas with a potential risk of collisions of vehicles or aircraft on airport grounds, especially in case of low visibility due to bad weather conditions.
This was carried out through:

  • Calculating the magnitude of intersections of tracks per unit area using a kernel density function (figure a).
  • Analysis of tracks, generated from GPS, WLAN, ADSB and MLAT data, in consideration of appropriate temporal recording intervals in order to determine the accuracy of the tracked routes (figure b).
  • Definition of geofences and associated rules and actions.
  • Detecting the amount and frequencies of geofence intersections by vehicles and aircraft.
